Water–the elixir of life. Seventy percent of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. Our bodies are largely composed of water and, as a result, we are inextricably linked to it. So it is no wonder we feel such a strong connection to water. Few things are as enchanting or as rejuvenating as time spent lakeside. Siskiyou County is home to countless lakes, rivers, and waterfalls. Some 60 lakes lie nestled within a twelve-mile radius of Mount Eddy alone. The longest river in California, the Sacramento River, has its headwaters at the base of Mount Shasta, and numerous spectacular waterfalls grace the county, including Ash Creek Falls on Mount Shasta’s east side. Castle Lake is one of the area’s most popular and photogenic lakes.

The Sierra Nevada and Rocky Mountain Ranges boast many picturesque lakes, as well. Thousand Island Lake in the Sierra, and Saint Mary’s Lake in Glacier National Park, are but two of the examples represented here.
